A joint is a classic way to consume cannabis. It’s essentially a hand-rolled cigarette filled with cannabis instead of tobacco. Rolling a joint is an art that combines technique and personal style, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature.
To roll a joint, you’ll need some basic supplies: rolling papers, cannabis flower, and a filter or crutch (optional). Start by breaking down your cannabis into small pieces. You can use your fingers or a grinder for this step. The goal is to create an even consistency that will burn smoothly.
Next, take a rolling paper and place it on a flat surface with the adhesive strip facing up and away from you. If you’re using a filter or crutch, place it at one end of the paper. This helps keep the shape of the joint and prevents bits of cannabis from getting into your mouth.
Now it’s time to add the cannabis. Evenly distribute your ground flower along the length of the paper. Be mindful not to overfill; too much can make rolling difficult.
With your thumbs and forefingers, gently pinch the paper around the cannabis and start shaping it into a cylinder. This step might take some practice to perfect. Once you’ve got an even shape, tuck one side of the paper under the other while keeping everything tight.
Lick along the adhesive strip to moisten it slightly, then press down to seal your joint. Give it one final roll between your fingers to ensure it’s packed evenly.
If needed, use something like a pen or toothpick to pack down any loose ends before twisting them closed. This helps ensure an even burn when you light up.
Rolling joints takes practice but don’t be discouraged if your first few attempts aren’t perfect. With time and patience, you’ll develop your own technique that works best for you.
